Transformation Tuesday

  • With your group:
      • Look online or in the newspaper and find an article that proves that this is an actual problem in Sanford
      • If it is an online article email me the link at kregan.lec@lee.k12.nc.us
      • Create a TPEQEA paragraph explaining how this is an issue in Sanford, why is needs to be fixed, and how can it be fixed
        • Use a quote from the article 
        • Use your own experience and opinions as well
    • Once your paragraph is complete you are going to create a collage that shows your issue and must include:
      • Your TPEQEA paragraph (I can print this off for you or you can write it)
      • Quote:  any quote about your issue (make sure to put the author)
      • Song lyrics that relate to your issue (make sure to put the song and the singer/writer)
      • Chart/graph showing statistics about this issue (send to my email)
        • *This can be on a bigger scale than just Sanford
      • 8 words related to your issue (cut out of magazines/newspapers)
      • 5 pictures related to your issue (cut out of magazines/newspapers)
      • 5 careers that could help this issue AND how they can help
      • realistic action steps that could be put in place to help your problem in Sanford
      • Display everything in a neat and creative way on the poster!

  • Get in small groups
    • Create a chart with the headings "Online" and "Real Life"
    • Create a list of norms for each answering the following questions:
      • How do you expect to be treated?
      • In what ways do you treat others?
      • What behaviors are acceptable?
      • What behaviors are unacceptable?
      • What misbehaviors can you "get away with" easily?
      • What courtesies do you show others in each environment?
    • Share with the class
  • Digital Citizenship
    • What is your definition of citizen?
    • What is your definition of digital citizen?
    • How are these two different?
  • Nine Elements of Digital Citizenship
    • Pick two per group:
    • For each element:
      • List the rights associated with the element
      • List the beliefs that apply with the element
      • How is the element expressed in real life or give an example
      • Draw a sketch to represent the element
    • Share with the class

Digital Citizenship

  • Private and Anonymous
    • SILENTLY walk around the room and look at the pictures
    • Say whatever you want to about this person anonymously by writing a message or drawing a pictures
      • This can be positive or negative
    • In groups, examine the messages people left on your person
    • Answer the following questions on a piece of paper as a group:
      • How did you feel when given the chance to get things off your chest and write anonymous messages?
      • How do you think the person would feel reading your messages, especially the negative ones?
      • What are the advantages of being anonymous?
      • What are the disadvantages of being anonymous?
      • Do you feel a greater sense of freedom to voice your opinions when you are anonymous?  Explain.
      • Do you think being anonymous online gives you more confidence to be the person that you want to be?  Explain.
      • Do you think people act more irresponsibly online when their identity is hidden?  Explain.
      • Do you think when bullying happens online it is harder to effectively deal with the case if people are anonymous?  Explain.
  • Pick a Side Debate
    • Statements will be read aloud
    • Choose whether you agree or disagree and go to that side of the room
    • Each side can defend their answer
      • If you want to switch sides based on what people say you may
